National Public Radio recently aired “Debt” by Brenn Hill off his What A Man’s Got To Do CD on August 3rd.

The lyrics of this song cut to the truth of what many families experience.

Such as…

“We’re puttin’ groceries on the credit card so we can stay alive”

“I got a brand new diesel pick-up truck that I can’t afford to drive”

“My friends they look at me and they think I’m doin’ fine”

Brenn Hill created a very meaningful song that relates to those who are experiencing troubles with debt.  In a subtle way, Brenn Hill shows us the hypocrisy of our situation when we purchase things expecting happiness, but receive sadness from the debt that is incurred from such a purchase.

And let us take a hard look at our situations and try not to be the stereotype he is singing about.

We certainly do need to start challenging our assumptions about what is important.

Too long we have subscribed to the idea that more is better and one can never have too much stuff. We are really starting to pay the price for blindly accepting this Gospel of Consumption as the truth!

I think that before we can really change our attitudes to consumer debt we need to embrace the concept of ‘enough’
